I bought my last Thinkpad using an employee friends ID number, is
that program still valid? I need to buy another Thinkpad for
my wife.

Yes ,but it is called Lenova now.Get an IBM er to enroll you in his name.

Yes it is same sort of technique different site. You need the employees
serial # and last name.
